A realistic practice interview structure, using original ELS tasks inspired by common SELT speaking and communication demands. Always match your practice to the official format of the test you book.
This mock test walks through the same four stages as a real SELT interview. Read through it once to understand the structure, then use it as a script, ideally with a friend, family member, or our AI Speaking Coach, asking you the questions aloud while you answer out loud, exactly as you would on exam day.
The examiner puts you at ease with simple, direct questions about yourself.
The examiner asks about familiar, everyday topics, adjusted to your level.
At B1 and above, questions move towards opinions and longer, connected answers.
The interview closes with forward-looking questions.
Once you've worked through all four stages, review your answers honestly. Did you hesitate a lot? Did you use a wide range of tenses, or mostly present simple? For the specific vocabulary and grammar this interview draws on, see our SELT Vocabulary guide and our free grammar guides.
A mock test tells you the structure. A CELTA-qualified tutor tells you exactly what's holding your score back, and how to fix it before exam day.
