Since Brexit ended free movement, German nationals wishing to work in the UK beyond a short visit now generally need a Skilled Worker visa requiring a SELT, alongside family visa applicants joining a partner or spouse already in the UK. German nationals with settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme do not need a SELT.
German and English share Germanic roots, which helps with some vocabulary, but German sentence structure, particularly verb placement, differs from English word order in ways that commonly carry over into spoken and written English.
