The door slams behind you…

It’s Halloween night, and your friends dared you to spend ten minutes inside Ravenscroft Manor, an abandoned house on the edge of town. Unfortunately, the front door has just locked itself.

A note is pinned to the wall: “Five rooms. Five secrets. Collect the five numbers and the door will open. Fail… and you stay for ever.”

Solve every puzzle in a room to reveal its number. Play alone or race a classmate.

The Front Door

Enter the five-digit code

Solve all five rooms to reach the front door.

Type the numbers in the order you found them.

The lock clicks. Cold night air rushes in, and you stumble out onto the gravel path, laughing with relief. Your friends are waiting by the gate.

“Ten minutes?” one of them says, confused. “You’ve been in there for over an hour.”

You check your phone. It’s 3 a.m. Behind you, an upstairs light flickers on, and someone in an old-fashioned dress waves goodbye from the attic window…

Happy Halloween! Now try the full B2 lesson or the Use of English challenge.

Classroom idea: put students in teams and project the page. The first team to escape wins, but every answer must be explained before the next room opens.
