Overview
Level B1 (CEFR) · 40–50 minutes · teams of 3–4 · project on the board or let teams play on their own devices.
Language focus
- Front Hall: Halloween and house vocabulary (definitions)
- Library: narrative tenses: past simple, past continuous, past perfect
- Kitchen: modals of deduction: must / might / can't
- Portrait Gallery: reading for detail (true / false)
- Attic: spelling (anagrams), then the exit code
How to run it
- Pre-teach or check: haunted, creak, cobweb, cauldron. Set the scene with the intro text.
- Press Start. Teams must agree on each answer before anyone clicks.
- Each hint costs two minutes of candle time. Wrong answers are counted, so teams should discuss first.
- When a room is complete, a number appears. The four numbers, in room order, open the attic door.
- Follow-up: teams retell Lady Agatha's story using narrative tenses, or write the next Halloween ghost report (60–80 words).
